Art and Space

My passion for arts and design kept my life a not-so-boring one. I make art in forms of sketches, designs, paintings, and etc.

“Music decorates time, while art decorates space.” – Anonymous

How do we relate space and art? We have plenty of space even on the Earth’s surface (get it? ‘Coz space is supposed to be outside the planet. Please laugh.) All of these spaces will get pretty boring if we don’t put anything on it! But the real question is– what do we put on it? Yep, you’ve guessed it…. art!

Art have its many forms, here are the one’s I’m familiar with:

  • Street Wall Art – artists from different parts of the world unite through painting our walls with something that’s close to their heart. Most of the time, the artist has a message that he/she wants to spread. Some, through passion, expresses theirselves through this type of art. Do not mistake this for vandalism, though. Vandalism is illegal and is the action involving deliberate destruction of or damage to public or private property.

  • Assemblage – unrelated objects are gathered to form something, it is similar with collage, the only difference is that collages are two-dimensional while assemblage is three-dimensional. I find this fascinating due to the fact that the objects involved are unrelated in any way yet they unite to create an art.

  • Sketches – this is my personal favourite! Not only can it be done in any medium, but it can also be done using different types of materials. I find this very convenient and also entertaining (in some way) because the size of the medium is limitless, it can be as big as an average mural but as small as your notepad (which makes it portable). It is usually done on strathmore bristol pads, but artists have their own preference.

  • Architecture – I find this form of art as the most practical one, not only can this be one’s source of income but it can also be recognized as one of the firsts of the world’s infrastructures (e.g. The Great Wall of China and Burj Khalifa). Through architecture, one has the freedom to design his/her own property, business, etc, all the while unleashing the architect’s artistry.

In the Philippines, I do not think that art is appreciated. I mean, yeah, we have art, but people don’t tend to see the beauty in it as much as they appreciate music, dances, etc. I think that it’s sad that art has become underrated. I can defend this opinion by stating that singers and dancers can make a living out of what their talents can bring them yet artists are sometimes called “vandalizers” or some are even told to, “get a real job!”.

I hope that somehow, my post had somehow grabbed your attention and made you see art as more than a “decoration”.

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas

Let’s make the most out of what we have, let’s give this space the art it deserves!
